As far as travel nightmares go, lost baggage has to be one of the worst. Thanks to Apple’s coin-sized tracker, the AirTag, losing your luggage doesn’t have to be a nightmare.

In this article, I offer 5 reasons why AirTags help with lost luggage and can also help with getting your luggage back from an airline quicker.

  1. With an AirTag you can track your luggage location while at the airport
  2. An airline baggage agent can get your contact info from an AirTag in Lost Mode
  3. AirTags work virtually anywhere worldwide
  4. Use hundreds of millions of Apple devices to find your AirTag

If you want the peace of mind that your bags have made it onto the plane, consider buying yourself an Apple AirTag.

AirTags Are The Ultimate Travel Gadget?

It’s almost impossible to prevent lost luggage while flying. However, an AirTag can significantly help to improve your chances of finding your lost suitcase. Using an Apple AirTag for lost luggage gives you access to hundreds of millions of Apple devices worldwide. Therefore, you can easily track your bag’s location right from your device, making AirTags the ultimate must-have luggage travel gadget.

Pack of 4 Apple AirTags

Still wondering can an AirTag find lost luggage? Well, before you jet off on your next vacation flight, consider these 5 strong reasons for using an Apple AirTag with your checked luggage:

1. Track Your Luggage Location While At The Airport

You might just be looking for reassurance that your bag is somewhere at the airport. An AirTag is perfect for this, pop an AirTag inside your luggage, and you can easily track its whereabouts right from your iPhone. Knowing where your luggage is at is a key piece of information to give an airline baggage agent to help with baggage recovery.

Top tech tip: Each Apple ID can be associated with up to 16 AirTags, so you can keep track of 16 items at one time.

An AirTag can give you peace of mind at an airport.

2. An Airline Baggage Agent Can Easily Get Your Contact Info

One cool feature of an AirTag is that an airline baggage agent can get your contact info by tapping your AirTag with an NFC-capable smartphone regardless if its running iOS or Android. This feature is super helpful, especially if your bag becomes lost at the airport due to a missing bag tag. With no bag tag, there is very little for a baggage agent to go on, so this is where an AirTag can also prove its worth.

3. AirTags Work Virtually Anywhere Worldwide

An AirTag will essentially work anywhere abroad. However, to be effective an AirTags Bluetooth signal needs to be detected by a nearby device in the Apple Find My network. If your AirTag is in a less densely populated area where no one passes frequently, it’s less likely that your AirTag’s location will be updated.

4. Use Hundreds Of Millions Of Apple Devices To Find Your AirTag

The Find My app makes it easy to see an AirTag. The Find My app allows you to locate the AirTag on a map or play a sound to pinpoint its location. The Find My network is a crowd-sourced network of hundreds of millions of Apple devices that use Bluetooth technology to detect AirTags and report their approximate location. The entire process is encrypted and anonymous, so no one else, not even Apple can view your AirTag’s location or information.

Hundreds of millions of Apple devices are in Apple’s global finding network.

5. You’ll Get A Year’s Worth Of Battery Life From An AirTag

Besides all the tracking benefits you get from an AirTag, another great feature for travelers is that an AirTag is a set-it-and-forget-it gadget. Once you’ve paired and set up an AirTag, you can attach it to your suitcase and forget about it. That’s because an AirTags battery life will last around one year before it needs to be replaced.

How Exactly Do AirTags Work?

An AirTag sends out anonymous secure Bluetooth signals that are discoverable by nearby Apple devices on the Find My network. These Apple devices then send the location of the AirTag to iCloud so the AirTag’s location can be seen within the Find My app map.

If your AirTag is close to you, your iPhone, using Precision Finding, will lead you straight to it. Precision Finding uses Ultra-Wideband technology to provide spacial and directional information on your supported Apple iPhone.

Apple Precision Finding screen shots
Precision Finding will lead you straight to your AirTag.

Top tech tip: Apple’s Precision Finding feature relies on Ultra Wideband technology, however, not all countries currently support this technology.

If however, your AirTag is not near, your AirTag can also be put into Lost Mode, just like other Apple products. When your AirTag is in Lost Mode, when it’s detected by a nearby Apple device on the Find My network, you’ll automatically receive a notification on your iPhone.

Let’s Not Forget About AirTag Luggage And Baggage Accessories

One negative of an AirTag is the lack of a pre-drilled hole for attaching it to stuff. The lack of a pre-drilled hole means that you’ll likely need to use an AirTag accessory to keep your new tracking gadget safe and secure.

That being said, its not necessary to use an accessory. In fact when I travel I place my AirTag in a Ziploc bag and place it in a pocket inside my suitcase. I do this for two reasons, one, I do not want my AirTag to be torn off while traveling through an airport’s baggage handing system, and two, I don’t want it to be stolen.

Are you in the market for an AirTag, and want to know if it will hold up when exposed to heat, cold, rain, or snow? In this article, I explore and answer, is an AirTag weather-resistant?

An AirTag is weather-resistant thanks to being splash, water, and dust resistant and having an ingress rating of IP67. As well as being splash, water, and dust resistant, AirTags will operate in temperatures as low as −4° F (−20° C) to temperatures as high as 140° F (60° C).

AirTag with ice background
An AirTag can withstand routine exposure to Mother Nature’s elements.

Does An AirTag Work Outside?

An AirTag will work outside despite exposure to weather conditions like sunlight, heat, humidity, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures. With an IP67 water Ingress Protection rating to a maximum depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes, an AirTag is well suited to work outside.

Apple AirTag
An AirTag will withstand exposure to heat, cold, rain, or snow.

The definition of weather-resistant implies that the product, in this case, an AirTag, should resist the penetration of water. So an AirTag can get wet to some degree (but not entirely), and therefore it’s said to be water, splash or rain-resistant only.

Pack of 4 Apple AirTags

What Does IP67 Mean?

Water and dust proof products, like an Apple AirTag, are defined by their Ingress Protection numbers, for example an AirTag’s is IP67. The first number after IP is for an AirTag’s protection against solid objects like dust and sand. This number can range from 0 (no protection) to 6 (full protection) against dust and sand. The second number is for the AirTag’s parts protection against liquids, and ranges from 0 to 8.

So Are AirTags Waterproof?

Although AirTags are well suited to working outside, AirTags themselves are not waterproof.

As per Apple’s specifications, AirTags can spend up to 30 minutes underwater to a maximum depth of 1 meter (3.28 feet) without experiencing permanent damage. Another general expectation to consider, as devices age, as does their ability to withstand the requirements of the water ingress rating due to normal wear and tear.

Can AirTags Be Waterproofed?

The only way to improve an AirTag’s protection from water ingress is to use a waterproof AirTag keychain or AirTag case. Most third-party waterproof AirTag accessories like the ones below offer an Ingress Protection rating of 8. This rating will give your AirTag protection against the effects of water under pressure for long periods.

Fully submerging your AirTag in water has the potential to reduce its tracking functionality, however, your mileage may vary. A plus of using a waterproof AirTag case is being able to attach your AirTag to water-based sports equipment like a jet ski without the worry of water ingress.

Top tech tip: Each Apple ID can be associated with up to 16 AirTags, so you can keep track of 16 items at one time.

Can you swim with an AirTag?

You can swim with an AirTag, however, an AirTag is only water-resistant, so you will likely want to use a waterproof case with it.

Final Thoughts On Is An AirTag Weather-Resistant

So, in conclusion, is an AirTag weather-resistant? Yes, an AirTag can be considered weather-resistant. With an IP67 rating, and an ambient operating temperature of between −4° to 140° Fahrenheit, AirTags will withstand weather exposure from heat, cold, rain, or snow.

If you’re new to Chromebooks and Chrome OS, it’s understandable why you’d want to question are Chromebooks safe for online banking or if you can even do internet banking on a Chromebook. If you find yourself wondering the same read on, because this article is for you.

Chromebooks are just as safe for online banking as Windows or Mac computers. Security comes built into a Chromebook and Chrome OS with features like virus protection, sandboxing, verified boot, and a security chip to encrypt all of your data.

In this article, I dig into topics like, are Chromebooks safe for banking, how secure is a Chromebook, and much more.

Chromebooks are powerful, affordable alternatives to meet your online banking security needs.

Are Chromebooks Safe For Banking?

Chromebooks are as safe as any other computer for internet banking and financial transactions. But Chromebooks have some unique security features that other computers do not have, like built-in virus protection, sandboxing, and an OS-verified boot feature.

woman sitting on a tree log using a Chromebook
Chrome OS is a fast, easy-to-use, and secure operating system that powers every Chromebook.

A Chromebook is not inherently more secure than other devices such as a Windows or Mac laptop, but you are less likely to get infected using a Chromebook while surfing the web. Chrome OS closes off most operating system entry points for malware. Additionally, you can’t install local software programs like other computers. The browser and other software run inside sandboxed areas, so even if one part gets infected, the rest is designed to stay safe.

Top tech tip: Where you can, opt for a passphrase instead of a password. A passphrase is a sentence-like string of words that is used for authentication. A passphrase is longer than a traditional password, easy to remember for you, but difficult for a criminal to crack.

Every time a Chromebook starts up, its operating system, Chrome OS, goes through a verified boot. Verified boot is a rigorous and seamless security check-up in the background that checks it has not been compromised. Chrome OS also downloads and installs its security updates automatically behind the scenes, so you don’t have to

How Secure Is A Chromebook?

A Chromebook running Chrome OS is one of the most secure computers that you can buy. Based on the Linux operating system, Chrome OS features sandboxing, automatic updates, verified booting, data encryption, and full OS recovery, all of which will help keep your computer running securely.

is a Chromebook good for a college student
Chromebooks take a multi-layered approach to security.

Top tech tip:  Set up two-factor authentication on all your Google accounts. While it’s not foolproof, in general it’s harder, and less common for hackers to bypass multi-factor authentication.

So why are Chromebooks so secure? Chrome OS is derived from Linux OS, one of the most secure operating systems available. Linux is open-source, which means that anyone can contribute to its development. With many eyes working on the code, bugs and vulnerabilities are discovered and fixed quickly. Using Linux as its template, Chrome OS ensures it has the strongest security of any operating system on the market.

In addition to leveraging open-source development, Chromebooks have many security features built-in, each powerful in its own right but designed as a package to create a multi-layered approach to security. So what are these features? Check them out below:

  • Sandboxing: Chrome OS keeps software on a Chromebook separate with a concept called Sandboxing (isolating a piece of software). Even if one piece gets infected, the rest is designed to stay safe.
  • Verified Boot: Every time a Chromebook starts up, it goes through a process called Verified Boot, a rigorous and seamless security check-up in the background. If it detects that the operating system has been tampered with or corrupted in any way, it will repair itself without any effort.
  • Security Chip: Every Chromebook includes a built-in security chip to encrypt data and keep it safe. This includes data like downloads, cookies, and browser cache files, all automatically encrypted while in local storage.
  • Virus Protection: Built-in virus protection protects a Chromebook from malware, phishing and other attacks and means you don’t have to install third-party security software.
  • Automatic Updates: Chromebooks receive automatic updates like virus definitions in the background, so they have the latest software and security features without interrupting you.
  • Recovery: A Chromebook can be easily reset back to factory settings without losing your cloud data.

Top tech tip: In the rare event that something does go wrong, a fresh start is just a click away. With the Powerwashing feature on your Chromebook, you can easily reset your Chromebook back to its factory settings and get rid of any malware in the process.

AirTags are Bluetooth tracking gadgets by Apple designed to track all of your misplaced stuff.

If you’re looking to buy AirTags, one of the questions you’ll likely want an answer to is, do AirTags come with a charger? If you’re wondering the same, then read on because this article is for you.

Unlike other Apple products, AirTags do not come with a charger out of the box. However, an AirTag battery will last around one year before needing replacing. Fortunately, replacing an AirTag’s battery is easily done in a few simple steps.

In this article, I explore topics such as, what comes in an AirTag box, how to check your AirTags battery level, and much more.

AirTag with battery icon and a title that reads do AirTags come with a charger
Unlike other Apple products, an AirTag has no charger.

What Comes In An AirTag Box?

What comes in an AirTag box is the AirTag itself with a pre-installed unactivated CR2032 battery, some safety and handling information, and a handy AirTag user guide, and that’s it.

image of what is inside an AirTag box
What’s inside an Apple AirTag box.

For those wondering if AirTags come with a charger, they do not. Nor do they come with an AirTag holder, an AirTag keyring, or an extra AirTag battery out of the box. Apple has cleverly created a market for AirTag Loops and other AirTag accessories to keep your AirTag safely secured to your stuff.

Once you open the usual Apple-style packaging, you’ll find a couple of documents, a user guide, and safety and handling information.

Putting those to one side, you will find the AirTag itself, all nicely wrapped in plastic. Removing the plastic serves two purposes, the first, it exposes the stainless steel face (which does scratch), and the second, it activates the pre-installed battery.

Pack of 4 Apple AirTags

Do AirTags Need Batteries?

AirTags do need batteries to operate. An AirTag uses a replaceable CR2032 battery as its only power source. When used daily, an AirTag’s battery will last around one year before you have to replace it.

CR2032 3V lithium AirTag battery
A CR2032 lithium 3V battery from an Apple AirTag.

Without a battery your AirTag will not operate, and therefore you’ll be unable to track your stuff. The cool thing about an AirTag is that it’s a set-it-and-forget-it gadget.

Once you’ve paired and set up an AirTag, you can attach it to your item and forget about it, knowing that your AirTag’s battery life will last around a year before it needs to be replaced.

It’s easy to find a CR2032 replacement battery when it comes time to replace your AirTag’s battery. CR2032 batteries can be found in the battery section of most large retail stores, so you can easily pick some up next time you go.

Top tech tip: Apple do not recommend using a CR2032 battery with a bitterant coating in an AirTag since the alignment of the coating in relation to the battery contacts may affect its operation.
